Sodium gluconate is a compound with formula NaC6H11O7. It is the sodium salt of gluconic acid. It has the E number E576. It is a white colorless powder that is very soluble in water.



The outstanding property of sodium gluconate is its excellent chelating power, especially in alkaline and concentrated alkaline solutions. It forms stable chelates with calcium, iron, copper, aluminium and other heavy metals, and in this respect, it surpasses all other chelating agents, such as EDTA, NTA and related compounds.

Application

Concrete Retarder

Sodium gluconate can significantly delay the start time and the end of the solidification of the concrete. In the amount of 0.15 % or less, with the logarithm of the initial solidification increase the amount of time proportional relationship, that with increase the amount to double clotting time delay to the start times , which makes it able to work from the time few hours to a few days without compromising on strength.
